Hrm, I didn't realize that you were running Squeeze when we were originally discussing all this :-)

Squeeze isn't supported by Virtualmin just yet, and it'll be a week or so before support is added and all the testing is done. So strange things like this could come up :-)

There's some details on Squeeze support here:

https://www.virtualmin.com/node/17166

We'll add spam delivery to our testing of Squeeze, but you may need to wait a week or so while Squeeze support is being added before we can really dig into that.

Would it be possible for you to post the headers of one of these spam email messages? It is possible that SpamAssassin on Debian 6 has changed the header format ..

Also, could you post the lines that get logged to /var/log/procmail.log when a spam message arrives?

sorry andreychek, i forgot to mention that significant 'detail' when posting on forums. my bad.

anyway, flash news, i got this working after looking in procmail.log trying to extract the info that Jamie requested, and it seems that this isn't actually a bug. it is rather (in my opinion) a documentation issue. so: setting the Destination for spam emails - Write to mail file under home directory to "~/Maildir/.spam/" doesn't work, as described in my forum post. procmail.log messages told me clearly that the option should be set to "Maildir/.spam/", without the ~, and it works like it should. i consider this a documentation issue because the option above ("Write to standard spam Maildir") states "~/Maildir/.spam/" as example and help window for "Destination for spam emails" setting doesn't give any examples. The same applies to Virus directory.

on the other hand, the setting message "Write to mail file under home directory to" now seems quite suggestive to me, but i still believe that this setting should be clarified a bit.

to answer JamieCameron (maybe some info from a debian squeeze already running virtualmin gpl won't hurt), these are the headers of the last spam message:

as a side question, please: what i need to configure to get rid of procmail.log message suites like this: procmail: Unable to treat as directory "/var/www/Maildir" procmail: Error while writing to "/var/www/Maildir" procmail: Unable to treat as directory "/var/www/Maildir" procmail: Lock failure on "/var/www/Maildir.lock" procmail: Error while writing to "/var/www/Maildir" From www-data@ Tue Feb 15 12:41:05 2011 Subject: Cron <www-data@> [ -x /usr/share/awstats/tools/update.sh ] && /u Folder: Bounced<-><------><------><------><------><------><------> 664 Time:1297766465 From:root@ To:www-data@ User:www-data Size:17161 Dest:/var/www/Maildir/ Mode:None procmail: Unable to treat as directory "/var/www/Maildir" procmail: Error while writing to "/var/www/Maildir" procmail: Unable to treat as directory "/var/www/Maildir" procmail: Lock failure on "/var/www/Maildir.lock" procmail: Error while writing to "/var/www/Maildir" From MAILER-DAEMON Tue Feb 15 12:41:05 2011 Subject: Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender Folder: Bounced<-><------><------><------><------><------><------> 577 Time:1297766465 From:MAILER-DAEMON@ To:www-data@ User:www-data Size:18803 Dest:/var/www/Maildir/ Mode:None

from my understandings this is awstats that generates some kind of a report that bounces between www-data and root users which don't have any Maildirs set? what's the best way to solve this?

thanks much for all your help!
