Howdy -- hmm, that may be more of an Ubuntu package dependency issue, but one thing you could try is to see if you have any better luck performing the updates on the command line.

That is, what happens if you log in as root over SSH, and run the following:

apt-get upgrade

Are you able to upgrade the packages that way?
